THE MAGICAL NURSERY

This space was a long and narrow room, which did not get much light and was somewhat awkward. The design had to be child and teenager friendly at the same time.

One of the two walls along the length of the room was treated as a ‘light box’. An abstract line drawing of a tree was carved out of sheets of marine plywood, which was then used as a lining over the long wall. Light fittings were then installed behind the white lining and when switched on, light glows through the perforations, which form the tree, and leaves and flowers appear falling randomly from the branches. The light that glows through the crevices makes the room feel magical.
