BERTIE’S PLACE

The initial issues of this project were that the living spaces were located in the dark central part of the apartment and the sleeping quarters were situated towards the front. Natural light and ventilation were restricted due to limited internal openings. By proposing alterations to the apartment layout, an increase in natural light and ventilation resulted with the removal of some internal walls and new openings. Living spaces were relocated to the front whilst sleeping quarters to the back and separated by two cubes, which act as ‘buffer’ zones. A teal cube was designed to help define and enclose the living room area and encase the kitchen at the back.
